Turning everyday people into main characters is an interesting exercise that we can all try. It involves our curiosity, by taking a closer look at someone and analyzing what defines them, to then represent it. Illustrator and concept artist Víctor Félix Díaz, better known as Felixantos, is capable of illustrating urban characters just as they are: unique and full of personality.
In this course, he will talk you through the process of creating an urban character as a concept and what that represents. He will guide you in creating your own character, based on a narrative. He introduces the study of color and the representation of the body and face. He goes through basic techniques to draw and color your character with Adobe Photoshop.

Get to know Felixantos, his professional career in creating characters and concept art, and his main influences.
Start off by learning the basics of concept art, and a walk through the Photoshop interface, to identify the main tools you’ll need. Felixantos introduces the technique of grisaille, with an in-depth look at lighting, the study of color and texture, for the creation of your character.
Learn more about the importance of context for urban characters, with examples, and study color for these. Understand how basic structure can be achieved with Photoshop, and learn how to use it for drawing faces and bodies, with special attention to different poses.
Once you have your character defined, proceed to draw them in different perspectives: your model sheet. Felixantos will show you how to apply color, selecting the right chromatic tonalities and lighting to represent the personality of your character.
And that’s it! You’ll have finished the course with a full understanding of concept art, to create an urban character with a professional finish and a model sheet, that will become part of your portfolio for future clients.
You will create an illustration of an urban character –or various– with style and personality, that you will then be able to present in your portfolio with a model sheet.

For those who like to draw, illustrators, animators, designers or anyone that wants to create characters with style and personality.
You will need basic drawing skills. As for materials, you will need a computer with Adobe Photoshop software installed, and a graphics tablet to draw more fluidly.
