Start by getting to know your trainer Javirroyo and his professional background, from his early days as a comic artist to the illustrations and vignettes he shares on social media today and his work as a professor. He explains why he writes with images and shows you some of his favorite projects as well as the artists whose uses of drawing as a visual and textual language most inspire him.
To warm up, rediscover the concept of creativity by exploring the four steps in your teacher's process: procrastinating, contemplating, drawing, and sharing. Identify your best quirks and see how you can use them to stand out from the crowd. Then, grab your pencil and run through a series of exercises: a descriptive self-portrait, an analysis of your strengths and weaknesses, and a concept-linking activity using diagrams.
Learn how to distill complex stories into simple ideas to connect with your audience: the simplest ones have the greatest potential for empathy. Practice different ways to create, explore, and experiment with ideas using concept maps, the human body, emotions, and chance mistakes.
Finally, approach reality from a different angle by encouraging yourself to step away from your comfort zone and think outside the box. Javirroyo teaches you how to extract multiple graphic ideas from a single image, find creative solutions to problems, question absolutely everything, and communicate through different mediums.
