Sketchbook Illustration with Pen: Embracing Mistakes

“Congratulations! You have reached the end of this Domestika course. Thank you for coming along with me on this journey. It's now time to work on your project. This could mean finishing the artwork you started while completing the course tasks or starting a brand new project! Either way, I strongly suggest taking the time to gather inspiration and making a unique project of your own. Make sure you keep track of your progress with different pictures of each step. It'd be great if you could also explain the choices you've made along the way and tell me if you have any doubts. This will help me understand your creative process and guide you better if you need advice. Here are the steps to complete your project: The Outline Using the skills you learned to create a line drawing, sketch the outline of your subject very lightly and then work your way up to the details and darker parts. Remember to draw confident lines. You can practice drawing a few lines of the same length beforehand to loosen your hand.

Adding Depth Give your drawing three-dimensionality by applying more or less pressure with the pen. Finding a New Perpective Once you've completed your line drawing, harness your creativity to perceive it in a new way. If it has mistakes (as mine did with the frog's proportion) don't worry! This is the perfect moment to transform them! If you're not sure about how to adapt your line drawing into another drawing using the shading technique, refer to the stain exercises you completed in Unit 4. This may help you to channel your creativity. The Image Transformation It's now time to reimagine what you've drawn! If you’re just starting out, draw darker elements like black flowers or dark animals to ensure your drawing is completely transformed.
The Finishing Touches Add any details that will take your image to the next level. Smoothen out any errors by tweaking the details.
I'm excited to see what you create. So make sure to show it off in the forum! You can do so by clicking on "Create your project". I will respond to your posts and questions as soon as possible. In the meantime, I encourage you to take a look at what the other students have created and comment on their posts, too. See you there!”

“Congratulations! We have reached the end of this Domestika course. I hope you have learned all the skills, to create a sketchbook as an artistic tool. I also hope that I've given you many ideas to apply in your own project. I want you to be original and creative for your final project. So here are a few tips to help you to achieve this. Remember that the pressure of your line gives to the drawing three-dimensionality. And remember to play with the length of the line. In opposite, when you use the shading technique, remember to create volume. to create, three-dimensionality. use the differen...”

Marco Mazzoni’s passion for drawing began at the age of five, when he would sketch on any piece of paper he could find while waiting for his father to finish work at the paper mill. Experimenting with the boundaries of fine art has been a passion of Marco’s since he was a student. His artwork tells a compelling story, drawing inspiration from Sardinian mysticism and the plants and animals he sketched as a child.

Marco’s recent achievements include working on an illustrated version of the Hans Christian Andersen classic Poucette for the French publishing house Albin Michel Jeunesse, where he takes the reader on a captivating journey through his use of color and texture. His work is also exhibited in galleries and museums across Europe and North America.
