Embroidery is an art that has existed for centuries, and Silvia Peligro, an embroiderer specializing in miniature pieces, has taken on the mission of preserving techniques that have survived to this day. In this course, learn the stitches that Silvia uses to create her miniature embroideries and, in addition, see how she turns them into figures that range from the simplest, with watercolor, to landscapes with color gradients and depth.

Get to know Silvia Peligro, who tells you about her beginnings as an embroiderer and shares her main influences from the textile world.
Before starting to draw with thread, review the materials you need with Silvia and go over the basic preparations before embroidering, such as transferring the lines to the fabric, placing it on the hoop, and threading the needle with mouliné thread.
Learn the four ideal stitches that you can use in outlines and fills to work on a small scale. Once you have mastered the stitches, apply them in three exercises with different levels of difficulty.
First, embroider a flower with a stem and leaves, and as a second project, embroider a human eye, where you use layers of thread to generate a feeling of volume.
In the third project, apply the embroidery technique to a miniature landscape, where you learn how to degrade the tones of the sky, embroider the grass with two different stitches, and, finally, turn French knots into flowers.
To finish, Silvia gives you some tips to assemble your completed embroideries in a mini hoop.

Regarding the materials, you need an embroidery hoop in the smallest possible size, embroidery needles in size #7 or larger, canvases, mouliné-style embroidery thread, sharp-tipped scissors, and other materials that Silvia explains.

Silvia Peligro, a self-taught graphic designer and embroiderer specializing in miniature pieces, studied Design and Visual Communication at UNAM, a period during which she discovered the work of Maricor/Maricar and was amazed by the way they mix the graphic world with the textile world. She started learning embroidery in 2010 and over time specialized in miniature work because of the precision it requires and how portable it is.
Currently, she is completely focused on her brand, which includes not only embroidered pieces, but also accessories and tools. She also gives workshops for people interested in learning the technique.
She has collaborated with important brands in the textile world such as Coats and Gütermann, and her work has been published by Kena and Glamour magazines.
