Guided Course: Animate in 3D with Practical Exercises
“It's your turn to put everything you've learned into practice. This project is designed to help you explore the principles of 3D animation in a practical and fun way. It doesn't matter if it's your first time animating: the key is to experiment, observe how movements behave, and be surprised by the results. Here are some ideas to inspire you: 1. Ball with expressive bounce Animate a bouncing, moving ball, but give it an extra touch of personality by adjusting the timing and exaggerating the energy of each bounce. Project example: A lightweight ball that seems to jump excitedly around the stage, with quick, springy bounces. 2. Weight comparison in action Perform two bounce animations: one with a light object and one with a heavy object. Focus on the difference in fall time and impact response. Project example: A rubber ball that bounces quickly and, in contrast, a bowling ball that barely bounces before rolling. 3. Squash and Stretch with humor Explore the squash & stretch principle to accentuate elasticity and add humor to your animation. Project example: A ball that flattens out exaggeratedly as it falls, then stretches comically as it propels upward. 4. Ball with dynamic tail Add a flexible tail to practice tracking and delaying movements. Work on the fluidity of the line of action. Project example: A bouncy ball with a cartoon-style tail that wags with each bounce. 5. The perfect pendulum Create an animation of a swinging pendulum to study arcs and continuity in motion. Project example: A pendulum that swings smoothly, conveying weight and realism in the swing. It's time to experiment with what you've learned and add your own style to each exercise. Focus on the basics, but don't be afraid to go overboard or try unexpected variations. Each animation is an opportunity to better understand movement and find your way to tell stories with simple objects.”
